Head for the Hills: October 11-13, Breaks Interstate Park

Who Should Attend. Residents and faculty from primary care residency programs in VA, TN, KY, NC, and WV. GMEC preceptors, local physicians and primary care clinicians.

Overall Program Goals
  • Introduce Southwest Virginia’s geography, culture, economics, and population health,
  • Excite interest in rural medicine and rotations with practicing physicians in the area,
  • Provide continuing education on topics relevant to the local population, and
  • Include time for relaxation and recreation in a spectacular natural setting
Objectives. Participants will learn more about the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions commonly encountered in primary care settings, e.g., substance abuse during pregnancy, obesity, anxiety disorders. Participants will also learn about specifi c issues
relating to care and treatment of patients in Southwest Virginia.
