We’re Fed Up: Fighting obesity in your community

I ran across this post on the Ning blog. Ning is an online service to create, customize, and share a social network.

The members of We’re Fed Up are taking on obesity and fighting to create a positive environment that fosters health and fitness. This Ning Network is created and maintained by 40 youth leaders from South Los Angeles and Baldwin Park, who have partnered up with the Department of Public Health in LA County along with other organizations.

Issues extend beyond eating the right foods — it comes down to turning empty lots into parks, where people are free to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Nothing shows that better than this discussion full of photos taken by students in South Los Angeles. And blog posts like this one — which gives astrology buffs some targeted exercise tips based on their zodiac sign — are bringing a fun element to health and fitness.
What a great example of communities collaborating with government to make a difference!
