Federal Virginia State Loan Repayment Program (VA-SLRP)

The Commonwealth of Virginia offers an incentive program that will repay outstanding medical education debt in exchange for medical service in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA). The purpose of the Loan Repayment Program is to increase access in Virginia's underserved areas to primary care services.



The Federal Virginia State Loan Repayment Program application cycle is currently OPEN and will close July 15, 2013.

The United States Department of Human Services (DHHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr), provides federal funding (up to $400,000 per year for a maximum of four years) for the Virginia State Loan Repayment Program (Grant number H56HP19792) and requires a dollar for dollar community match from a practice site or the community. In addition, this program requires that the practice location be a public or non-profit private entity and be federally designated a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA).
