The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program

Purpose
The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program provides financial support in the form of grants to community-based programs that conduct outreach, provide breast cancer education and link medically underserved women to clinical screening services. 

Avon BHOP will seek to support programs that:
  • Recruit women for both first-time and annual screenings
  • Develop partnerships between community-based outreach providers and local medical providers
  • Work with health care providers to ensure proper clinical follow-up of abnormal screening results
  • Educate older women about Medicare coverage of annual screening mammograms, and assist them in obtaining the service from providers who accept Medicare
Eligibility
To be eligible for funding, applicants must be based in the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands and be private, non-government, non-profit organizations (with Federal non-profit status). 

Both community-based organizations and medical service provider organizations (community clinics, hospitals, etc.) with mammography screening capacity are welcome to apply. 

Any publicly-funded government agency wishing to apply may do so only by partnering with a private, non-profit organization or educational institution that will assume fiscal responsibility for and collaborate fully with the proposed program. 

Native American Tribes are encouraged to apply to the Avon BHOP and may do so through or in partnership with Native American non-profit organizations that will assume fiscal responsibility for and commit to the reporting and screening requirements of Avon BHOP grants.

Changes & Updates to Cameron Foundation Grant Programs



 In June 2013, The Cameron Foundation announced changes to its competitive grant program.  Specifically, the number of annual grant cycles will be reduced from three to two. As a result, 2014 will see community grants awarded in June and October.  As well, the Foundation's seven funding interests have been consolidated into six and the priorities within each area have been clarified.

The 2011 Health Disparities Profiles

The 2011 Health Disparities Profiles examines key health indicators at the state level for different racial and ethnic populations in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Twenty-two health indicators are presented, which highlight some of the key areas related to health disparities among different populations. It can be used as a reference for policymakers and program managers to identify areas where major health disparities exist in each state.

Funding Opportunities

1. The Federal Office of Rural Health Policy has released a funding opportunity in support of the rural Access to External Devices Grant Program. The purpose of this program is to: (1) purchase automated external defibrillators; (2) provide defibrillator and basic life support training in automated defibrillator usage; and (3) place automated external defibrillators in rural communities.

All applications are due June 17, 2013. It is expected that 7 programs will be funded up to $200,000 per year for a three-year project period.



2. Grant funding will soon be available through the USDA for distance learning and telemedicine efforts aimed and serving rural America. The Notice of Funding Availability for the USDA’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant Program will be released in the coming days. The DLT grant program is designed to assist community facilities serving rural areas acquire distance learning and telemedical technologies to link with other professionals to improve the services delivered to rural Americans.

$17 million in grant funding is expected to be available and each award will be between $50,000 and $500,000.

• Applicants must be 1) a legally incorporated organization operating a rural community facility directly or serving an organization that operates a rural community facility and 2) must currently deliver or propose to deliver distance learning or telemedicine services through and beyond the three-year grant period.

2013 Grief Reach Request for Proposals

About Grief Reach

Grief Reach is a partnership between the National Alliance for Grieving Children and the New York Life Foundation. The goal of this partnership is to provide funds to Children's Bereavement Programs to expand the reach of their programs to include underserved youth populations (18 years and younger). The funds for these grants are generously provided by New York Life Foundation and the oversight and RFP process is managed by the National Alliance for Grieving Children. Final decisions on grants are made by a review committee consisting of representatives from both the National Alliance for Grieving Children and the New York Life Foundation.


Amount and Range of Grants

This year the Grief Reach project will again provide $750,000 in grants with the following number of grants and grant amounts:


  • 5 - $10,000
  • 5 - $15,000
  • 5 - $25,000
  • 5 - $100,000 ($50,000 a year for two years)

Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Resident Funds Program

The Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Resident Funds Program supports pediatric residents in the planning and/or implementation of innovative, community-based initiatives that increase children’s access to medical homes or specific health services not otherwise available.


These projects should lead to programs that can be replicated in other communities. Resident CATCH projects must include planning activities or demonstrate completed planning activities, and may include implementation activities.

Priority will be given to projects serving communities with the greatest demonstrated health care access needs and health disparities. Strong collaborative community partnerships and future sustainability of the project are encouraged.

Grants are available for programs that offer:

•Community-based initiatives that increase children's access to medical homes or health services not otherwise available and connecting uninsured/underinsured populations with available programs
•Connecting uninsured/underinsured populations with available programs
•Secondhand smoke exposure reduction
•Initiatives to address community barriers to immunizations
•Native American child health

Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program

The Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP) is pleased to announce the release of the FY 2013 Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program (announcement number: HRSA-13-153). This one-year grant provides an opportunity for rural communities to bring together key parts of a rural health care delivery system, particularly those entities that may not have collaborated in the past, to work together to establish or improve local capacity and coordination of care. Grantees will use their funds to lay out the foundation of a community health project by convening collaborating partners to conduct planning activities. Grantees may also use the funds to develop and assist healthcare networks establish and/or become operational.

Applicants may propose funds for up to one-year from April 1st, 2013-March 31st, 2014. The maximum award is up to $85,000.

The deadline to submit an application in grants.gov is October 15th, 2012. ORHP strongly recommends that applicants submit their applications prior to the due date to avoid any technological problems. All applications have to be submitted electronically in www.grants.gov.
