Access to HIV Care: Real Results


Following a $15 million initiative to increase access to HIV/AIDS care, the one-year results far exceeded initial goals. 19,589 patients are enrolled in care. 13,142 are enrolled for the first time.

275 Ryan White HIV clinical sites, including 134 dually-funded health centers, are receiving up to $38,000 each.

OMHRC's Upcoming Webinar: Breaking the Glass: Navigating Sexual Health & HIV Stigma with African Immigrants and Refugees. June 28!

The HHS Office of Minority Health Resource Center's National African Immigrant Project is providing a webinar targeting clinicians that work with African immigrants with HIV and its co-morbidities. The webinar, Breaking the Glass: Navigating Sexual Health & HIV Stigma with African Immigrants and Refugees, will address HIV stigma as it pertains to African clients, MSM in the African community, FGM, gender issues and medical adherence. The webinar will address some of the cultural barriers that prevent African clients from accessing treatment and care and adhering to prescribed medications. The Breaking the Glass: Navigating Sexual Health & HIV Stigma with African Immigrants and Refugees? Webinar will be held on June 28, 2013, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM ET.

Opportunities for Public Comment

The Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue: Proposed regulations on the Employer Shared Responsibility provisions under the Affordable Care Act now open for public comment. A March 2012 Presidential Memorandum established an interagency working group on the intersection of three critical health topics: HIV/AIDS, violence against women and girls, and gender-related health disparities. Through January 20, 2013, the working group is accepting public submissions of individual stories, experiences and comments that link these cross-cutting issues and illustrate the challenges in defining solutions. Improving African Immigrant Health through Empowerment


Washington, DC, is home to one of the largest concentrations of African immigrants in the nation. Many health care providers struggle to identify resources and understand the unique health needs of their African-born patients, and African immigrants themselves may be hindered by communication barriers. Enter an innovative pilot project – BEAT IT! (Becoming Empowered Africans through Improved Treatment of Diabetes, Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDS), which is working to close those gaps and promote improvements in disease self-management. Office of Minority Health Resource Center Pacific Awards

Several grants are available to fund capacity building in the United States Associated Pacific Islands. These grants will allow community-based organizations, health departments and health ministries to expand their capacity to accomplish work around the topics of HIV/AIDS, STDs and Tuberculosis. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2012 at 5 p.m. (PST). Learn More
