New Public Health Director Postion Available

The Network for Public Health Law has launched a nationwide search for a director of its National Coordinating Center (NCC), based at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. This leadership position will help steer the course of public health law and ensure the Network’s success as a catalyst for a healthier nation.

The Network is led by the director of the National Coordinating Center, who serves as a “leader of leaders” in designing and achieving a compelling vision for the Network’s future. The director leads operations of the Network and the NCC, serves as the Network’s spokesperson and liaison with national partners, coordinates the work of five Regional Centers across the United States, and ensures consistent and effective responses to key public health law issues.

For best consideration, applications should be submitted by close of business, June 30, 2013. The full position description, application process, and application requirements can be viewed on the Network’s website.

Weight of the Nation Conference
May 7-9, 2012

The CDC Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity will host the Weight of the Nation™, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. The conference is designed to provide a forum to highlight progress in obesity prevention and control through policy and environmental strategies, framed around five intervention settings: early care and education; states, tribes, and communities; medical care; schools; and workplaces. The conference will feature a number of public health law-related sessions, as well as a practitioner training on public health law and policy. In partnership with the University of Maryland School of Public Health’s Center for Health Equity, the Collaborative Center for Health Equity at the University of Wisconsin-Madison offers an intensive weeklong “research boot camp” focused on increasing the number of investigators, particularly minority investigators, engaged in health disparities/health equity research that are successful in tenure track academic appointments in schools of public health, medicine and other health and behavioral health science disciplines and help them in achieving research funding through the NIH.

Attention Public Health Students and Alumni!

Take advantage of this exciting opportunity to learn about careers in public health. The Virginia Public Health Association and its partners invite YOU to participate in our 3rd Annual Statewide Career and Internship Fair. You will be exposed to the plentiful professional opportunities in public health as well as recent advancements in health research and development. Registration is free for current students, and is required to reserve your spot.

The program will feature roundtable discussions on:

*Global and domestic public health careers,
*Combined veterinary medicine and human health tracks,

Who Should Attend
The program is designed for current undergraduates interested in careers in public health, MPH students and alumni, though others are welcome to join us as well. There will be a nominal fee for those who are not currently enrolled as students to cover the costs of lunch.
