David Niyonzima survived
a massacre in 1993 in Burundi that was directed at him and a group of his
Quaker students. This began David’s incredible journey of advocating and
working with forgiveness and reconciliation plus learning how to heal
traumatized clients.
David is a Quaker Minister with
a master’s degree in counseling from George Fox University which awarded him
its John Woolman Peacemaking Award in 2000. He is
the Director of THARS (Trauma Healing and Reconciliation Services) in
Bujumbura, Burundi where he developed a wide range of services including
Listening Rooms, Support Groups and Community Mediation. He was a Fellow at the
Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
David will be in Charlottesville
September 16-19, 2013, commencing a national tour of speaking and 1/2 day
workshops sponsored by THARS International (www.tharsinternational.com).
David will give a 5-hour seminar
for professionals the day of Sept 19 at the Virginia Foundation for the
Humanities ($50 fee).
David will give a free
presentation to the public the night of September 19, 7:30 pm at Tandem Friends
School. David is an engaging and charismatic speaker. He is available for meetings
and presentations in Charlottesville on September 17 and 18.
